ABU DHABI, 10th June, 2024 (WAM) — Masdar City, a leading sustainability and innovation hub in Abu Dhabi, has achieved the WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore Gold certifications respectively for its forthcoming Masdar City Square and The Link developments.
The WiredScore certifications are a global benchmark in assessing digital integration in urban developments. Similar to LEED certifications for sustainable buildings, their mission is to set the global standard for technology within the built environment, making buildings smarter and better connected, thus enabling a more collaborative, innovative, and dynamic future.
Masdar City Square is a cluster of seven commercial buildings with a gross floor area of 50,000 square metres. The development provides state-of-the-art office spaces that offer exceptional digital connectivity and smart functionality. The Link, which is scheduled for completion in 2025, comprises five commercial and residential buildings with a gross floor area of 30,000 square metres. It will create a dynamic mixed-use environment that seamlessly integrates living and working spaces with advanced technological infrastructure.
Benjamin Rumsey, Senior Manager of Sustainable Development and Investments at Masdar City, added, “These first-of-their-kind certifications in Masdar City demonstrate our commitment to delivering best-in-class real estate solutions to our partners and tenants. We initiated the certification process for both developments during the construction period and were able to achieve Platinum and Gold certification without any design modifications. This further validates that our assets are planned to the highest international standards in terms of digital connectivity and smart functionality, in addition to sustainability and wellness. We will continue to push the boundaries in all our future projects as we believe that Masdar City is the destination for people to live, work and play.”
John Hilliard, Head of Middle East at WiredScore, remarked, “I am thrilled that we could help Masdar City position its newest office developments at the forefront of a rapidly growing Grade A pipeline in the UAE. By achieving WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore Gold, Masdar City Square and The Link have demonstrated that they provide exceptional connectivity, resilience, smart functionality, and readiness to incorporate future technologies as tenant requirements evolve. Congratulations to the Masdar City team for this fantastic achievement.”
Masdar City’s certification efforts were supported by Elevation, a strategic building energy and carbon advisory organisation. Paul Paterson, CEO of Elevation, expressed his satisfaction, “I am delighted that Elevation had the opportunity to contribute to Masdar City’s latest development in Abu Dhabi, helping it secure WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore Gold certifications. This achievement positions Masdar City Square and The Link as world-leading developments and aligns with the core of our business, providing accredited professional services to support innovative and sustainable urban development. Congratulations to the Masdar City team on this outstanding accomplishment.”
These awards further enhance Masdar City’s distinguished reputation. Masdar City is home to one of the world’s largest clusters of LEED Platinum-certified buildings, comprising 21 completed structures, with more planned.
